The pH adjustment calculator estimates the volume of acid required to lower pool pH using a cautious planning factor based on standard 31.45% (20° Baumé) muriatic acid per 10,000 US gallons for each 0.1 pH decrease.
Water response to acid is non-linear and heavily buffered by Total Alkalinity, borate levels, temperature, and aeration. The calculated dose is a planning guideline, not a universal prescription. For calculation assumptions, see our calculation methodology.
Never add the entire calculated acid dose at once. Add acid in portions (e.g. half the calculated amount), distribute near return jets with the pump running, circulate for 4 to 6 hours, and re-test pH and Total Alkalinity before making further adjustments.
